The Kent Levy Campaign Co-Chairs
Rebekah Wright Kulis and Mike Lenzo have been named co-chairs of the May 2 Kent City Schools levy campaign.
"These two well known Kent citizens are enthusiastically helping us get the word out," explains Superintendent Marc Crail. "They believe in our schools and understand that funding issues make it necessary to ask our voters for support."
Kulis, a 1983 Theodore Roosevelt graduate, is operations manager
at Wright Heating & Air Conditioning. She and her husband Mike,
also a Roosevelt graduate, have two young children.
"With William in first grade, I am able to see all the wonderful experiences available to him, like great teachers, technology and even activities like Student Council," she says.
"In my experience, I received a wonderful education in the Kent Schools. I was well prepared for my classes at Kent State University," Kulis continues. "I think the Kent Schools environment, including academics, sports and co-curricular activities, makes a well rounded student."
Lenzo, a longtime Kent resident, is a retired educator. He started
teaching at St. Pat's in Kent and then moved to administrative positions
in the Ravenna and Aurora schools. Lenzo served as principal of St. Pat's
for seven years in the '80s, returning last year for a "delightful" stint
as interim principal.
He and his wife Mitzie, also a teacher, agree that the Kent schools gave their five children a "marvelous education and preparation for college."
"Kent citizens have always prided themselves on recognizing that education is a lifelong process," Lenzo explains. "Our children must be prepared to meet an ever changing and uncertain future. Kent Schools have done that for our children and I hope will do so for our grandchildren."
Lenzo continues, "It's easy to say no to a levy request, but easy isn't always best. Educated citizens and communities are beneficial to everyone."
